IPL 2

After a one week delay, the Indian Premier League 2 has finally kicked off. A lot of junta was saddened by the fact that the tournament will not be held in India. Not me! I am quite happy with the fact that it is being held in South Africa. Firstly, I don't need to wait for the camera to focus on the cheer leaders. Even the dames in the audience are just as good looking. Secondly, the grounds are so much more picturesque. And thirdly had anything gone wrong in India, the consequences would have been disastrous.

I happened to read a newspaper article which said that the viewership was 15% low as compared to last year. I dont think Modi and Co. will be overly bothered about it. With the television rights already sealed, they are making good money irrespective of the viewership. And it would be foolish to expect the same kind of viewership as the novelty of 20-20 cricket is now wearing off.

Most of the matches so far have been horribly one sided and that certainly won't help the TRPs. I will stick my neck out and put my money on the Delhi Daredevils to win the tournament. They have all the ingredients to make it all the way. Wily Vettori, swashbuckling Sehwag, destructive Devilliers and great (for lack of a better adjective starting with G!) Gambhir should seal it for Delhi!

Retorts!

Elections are here and I am absolutely enjoying it. Seeing 80 year olds fight it out in public is something I derive immense sadistic pleasure from. And so here are my favourite 3 politically linked retorts:

1. Narendra Modi (after the IPL was shifted to South Africa): 'Shifting the Indian Premier League to South Africa is a national shame'

Chidambaram: 'I thought the Godhra riots were a national shame.'

2. Sanjay Dutt (taking a swipe at Nirupam) : 'I cannot associate myself with the Congress party. This party has embraced a person like Sanjay Nirupam, who publically abused my father. This hurt him so much and it lead to his death.'

Nirupam: 'I couldn't have hurt Sunil Dutt ji more than his own son.'

And now for the best one!

Mayawati (hinting at Rahul Gandhi): 'Staying in a farmer's house and sleeping with a bullock won't eradicate poverty in Uttar Pradesh. It is just cheap publicity.'

Rahul Gandhi: 'Unfortunately Mayawati is ruling in Uttar Pradesh. Had the Congress party been there, we would have already eradicated poverty and I wouldn't have a dingy place to live in and get cheap publicity.'

Not quite a fool

I woke up on April 1st with a big smile on my face. I had kept an alert on my cellphone that it was All Fool's Day and so was on my look out for those prank calls. As soon as the paperboy came, I hurriedly browsed through the headlines of the Times of India. Then the Bombay Times. All the headlines seemed genuine enough. As a last resort, I glanced through the Mumbai Mirror. Even that let me down. I was then waiting for some friend to message me a fake exam time table or some relative to tell me that there has been an earthquake in my native village. I waited all day long, but alas, nothing of that sort happened. Looks like the world has become a lot more serious. Looks like people all over have become a lot more mature. And I am absolutely hating it!
